SUBMISSIONS

Scratch7 is about re-collection – how repetition, lineage, and memory can transform the familiar into something odd, uncanny, and suddenly, entirely new.

Scratch7 will take on a new format than previous issues by integrating archival essays related to the central theme of recollection. You can check out a list of some of the essays we have been reading in preparation for this issue on our reading list. We’re always eager to learn more too, so if you have any texts to recommend, please email us.

In line with this issue’s theme, we are accepting two types of submissions: traditional visual artists (similar to previous years of Scratch) and collectors (in all forms). Both types of submission will use the same submission form, which includes some narrative questions to help us better understand your work and how it relates to the topics we are exploring.

That being said, especially for visual artists, your art does not have to directly depict or relate to recollections. This theme is expansive, and we are open to art that explores all the tangential thoughts that arise around the idea of “collecting,” even the ones we least expected.

To help demonstrate the broadness of this subject matter, here are some additional themes that feel relevant:

Memory, renewal, framing, found objects, curation, networks, lineage, craft, the miniature, the gigantic, lost things, souvenirs, margins, knowledge, obsession, desire, alphabets, letters, reinvention, disintegration, hoarding, material, spaces, age, and even more

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
